What is WhatsApp Channels? Want to know more?

WhatsApp is bringing an exciting new feature called Channels, announced by Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg.

With Channels, users can effortlessly follow their favourite people and organizations based on their interests. It's like having a personal backstage pass to exclusive updates.

Channels act as a broadcasting platform for admins to share captivating content such as text, photos, videos, stickers, and polls. To make it even more convenient, WhatsApp is creating a searchable directory where users can easily discover Channels that align with their hobbies and interests. Accessing Channels is a breeze through the brand-new Updates tab. This tab becomes your haven, housing all the channels you choose to follow. Alternatively, you can also join a channel using invite links shared through chats or emails. The best part? Your privacy remains intact.

Channel admins won't reveal their phone number or profile photo to followers, and following a Channel won't disclose your phone number either. It's all about enjoying updates without sacrificing your personal information. To strike a balance between convenience and security, WhatsApp stores channel history on its servers for up to 30 days.

Admins also have the power to block screenshots and forwards from their channel, ensuring a controlled and safe environment. Admins can decide who gets to follow their channel and even choose whether they want their channel to be discoverable in the directory. It's all about giving admins the freedom to curate their channel and tailor it to their desired audience. While Channels won't initially have end-to-end encryption, this decision is deliberate to ensure a wide reach and accessibility.

However, WhatsApp acknowledges the importance of encryption and is exploring options to introduce it to limited audiences, such as non-profit organizations or health-focused groups. Moreover, the Channels feature will be rolled out first in Colombia and Singapore, allowing WhatsApp to gather feedback and fine-tune the experience before making it available to everyone.

Get ready to join the Channels revolution and stay connected to what matters most in a seamless and engaging way.
