Redmi Note 12 Pro Plus Review: Perfect balance of power and price

Redmi Note 12 Pro Plus Review: Perfect balance of power and price

Starting at Rs. 29,999/- the latest launch of the Redmi, Note 12 Pro Plus is one of the best examples of value-for-money products. The company has integrated a 200MP camera as one of the main highlights of the latest Redmi Note 12 Pro Plus. Let’s have a look at what the new Redmi Note 12 Pro has to offer in this review of ours.

In the Box

Obviously, the phone, a 120W adapter, a transparent phone cover, a SIM ejector pin and documentation.

Design

The latest Note 12 Pro Plus shares the same height and body dimensions as its predecessor in appearance and comes with a clean body design. The phone has a moderate body weight and a glass body divided by an aluminium frame. The phone comes with an IP53 certification to make it resistive against splashes of water and dust. Three camera sensors and a twin LED flash are housed in a rectangular frame on the phone's rear. The whole front of the phone is made of screens, save for a tiny punch hole in the centre that houses the selfie camera sensor. The power button and the volume rockers are located on the right side of the phone, and the fingerprint sensor has been integrated into the power button. The fingerprint sensor is quick and precise, although it requires some accuracy to configure the fingerprints.

The element of surprise is at the top of the phone, where you get to see a 3.5mm headphone port, which is a smart move on the part of the company, along with a speaker grille and an IR emitter. A hybrid SIM tray, a Type-C USB connector, and the second speaker grille are on the phone's bottom side.

Display

The Redmi Note 12 Pro Plus and Note 11 Pro Plus hardly differ from one another when it comes to the display. The 6.67-inch AMOLED panel and 120Hz refresh rate are the same. As a result of the display's ability to reproduce 1.07 billion colours, the colours that are displayed on the screen are very punchy and bright and have appropriately dark corners. The company has also added Dolby Vision, which enhances the video in high definition and enables you to watch content from Netflix, Amazon, and other sources in their original quality, generating an immersive viewing experience. The phone's screen has an aspect ratio of 20:9 with a resolution of 1080x2400 pixels. The phone can be operated in direct sunlight, highlighting good brightness capacity.

OS

The Redmi Note 12 Pro Plus is powered by Android 12 and features MIUI 13 from the manufacturer. Similar to the Note 11 Pro Plus, the interface has the same selection of intelligent functions.

Processor

The latest Redmi Note 12 Pro Plus is equipped with a new processor called the Dimensity 1080 SoC (6nm), which operates at a 2.6GHz clock speed. While multitasking or engaging in gameplay, the processor has absolutely no problems. The new MediaTek processor supports the 200MP camera and task-balancing capabilities of the phone. The phone has a touch sampling rate of up to 240Hz, which provides a fluid and lag-free gaming experience when you are engaged in intense gaming. The company used 3000mm2 Vapor Chambers to dissipate the heat to keep the phone from overheating, which is extremely handy while playing intense games. The phone is available in different RAM and ROM configurations, and the one we got to review has 256GB of internal storage and 12GB of RAM.

Camera

The introduction of a 200 MP primary lens is the main highlight of the Redmi Note 12 Pro Plus. By incorporating it in the camera lens, Redmi welcomes the introduction of the Pro-grade HPX Sensor. ALD (Atomic Layer Deposition), an Ultra Low Reflection Coating, is also used on the primary rear lens to help minimise reflections and glares and to improve challenging lighting conditions. However, we did pick up on the glares when things were going quickly. But the OIS aids in capturing the right images. The default setting for the 200MP lens is 12.5MP.

The two additional lenses—an 8MP ultrawide lens and a 2MP macro lens—remain the same as those on the Note 11 Pro Plus. In appropriate daylight conditions, the primary lens performs a very good job of accurately catching little details. The pictures that we took kept the ideal mix of colours, shadows, and contrast. When compared to photos we took with other smartphones, we occasionally noted that the images were over-tinted. The 119-degree field of view of the ultrawide lens allowed it to capture a wide assortment of detailed and precise photographs.

The colour consistency was maintained throughout the ultrawide photos, and there was no noise interference either. The photographs taken at night proved to be accurate in capturing detail without noise effect. If you want balanced nighttime pictures, we recommend using the night mode because it further enhances the images. In portrait mode, the camera does a fantastic job of separating the background. The photos had the proper synchronisation of colour and detail.

The 16MP selfie sensor can accurately capture interesting shots while maintaining the clarity of the photos without losing the proper colours or facial details.

Battery

The new Redmi Note 12 Pro Plus features an improved battery level. The battery on the phone has a capacity of 4,980mAh, which is more than enough to last you the entire day. The processor's cores carefully manage the power distribution, thus, the charge dispersion is extremely slow. The manufacturer has included a 120W rapid charger to charge the phone, which charges it fully in 20–25 minutes.

Verdict

With the Note 12 Pro Plus, Redmi has checked all the right boxes. It perfectly takes into consideration the current market demand and has integrated everything to make the new Redmi Note 12 Pro Plus a top contender within its price segment,
