Samsung Galaxy Watch5

The year 2022 for Samsung has been the year of changes and upgrades where we saw the smartphones getting the latest upgrades like refined hinges, powerful processors, etc, and in a similar fashion, the wearables from the company also come with some new features, static dial, and many others. Let’s find out what new the latest Samsung Watch 5 and Watch 5 Pro will be offering.

Price

The new Samsung Watch5 is available in two size variants 40mm which is priced at Rs. 32,999 and 44mm which is priced at Rs. 35,999. On the other hand, the new Samsung Watch 5 Pro is available in only one size which is 45mm and is priced at Rs. 49,999.

Design

In terms of look, you can easily distinguish between Watch 5 and Watch 5 Pro as you get to see more of a flat circular glass design in the Watch 5 whereas Watch5 Pro has an uplifted chassis encircling the display thus adding more protection which looks more solid. The placements of sensors and the navigation keys are in a similar fashion in both watches. We had the 44mm variant of Watch5 and Watch5 Pro comes only with one size which is 45mm.  The silicon straps on both watches are very soft and wide distributing weight very efficiently. In the Watch5 Pro, you get a different strap with a magnetic clasp making it attach and detach more easily compared to the Watch5 strap. The display of both watches is made of sapphire crystal glass and comes with an IP68 rating making it resistive against water splashes. Also, you get the military-grade durability standard of MIL-STD-810H in the new Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 Pro.

Both the watches fit the wrist very nicely and are very catchy due to the simple yet elegant design and if we have to pick one then we would like to go with the Watch5 Pro. The difference in the design is also due to the price difference which should be considered while comparing the watches. In contrast to Watch5, the two buttons on the Samsung Watch5 Pro also serve as electrodes to track body composition and the ECG.

Display

The display size and features of both Samsung Galaxy Watch5 and Watch5 Pro are the same with the only difference being that in the Watch5 Pro you get the feature of Always-on-display. The display size of the Samsung Galaxy Watch5 Pro and Watch5 are the same which is 1.4 inches Super AMOLED display. There is no difference in the screen resolution which is  450 x 450 pixels and has the same  321 PPI density. The screen space offered allows you to read messages quite comfortably and you can also easily type on the screen using the keypad that appears on the display. The visibility level is very good as you can watch the contents on the display very comfortably under bright sunlight. The benefit of not having Always-on-display on Watch5 allows you to save battery power.

OS and Processor

The new Samsung Galaxy Watch5 and Watch5 Pro come equipped with Android Wear OS 3.5, One UI Watch 4.5, Exynos W920 (5nm) chipset, and a Dual-core 1.18GHz Cortex-A55 processor. All of the Google services, including Gmail, Maps, Assistant, and more, are included with Wear OS 3.5. The user interface is incredibly slick and simple. It's quite simple to pair the watch with any Android handset. Both watches have 1.5GB of RAM and 16GB of ROM storage. You can store some of your favorite playlists on both watches to enjoy music.

Smart Features

Both watches have the same intelligent capabilities that let you make calls and respond to calls with gestures. Additionally, the links associated with the texts are clickable, and you can reply to replies to messages from various apps. You can use the watch to play music by pairing it with your Bluetooth headset, setting an alarm, checking the weather, etc.

Call Quality

The quality of the call in the Samsung Watch5 Pro is comparatively better and a little loud. The overall call quality is good on both the watches and the person on the other side of the call was able to hear us clearly.

Health Features

An advanced BioActive sensor to monitor health has been used in both watches to monitor health. Samsung Galaxy Watch5 being the base level misses out on the feature like ECG and Blood Pressure monitoring which we get to see in Samsung Watch 5 Pro and will always recommend to consult a health expert before taking the readings into consideration. Heart monitoring is present in both the watches along with other features like measuring the body composition, body fat, BMI, body water level, BMR, skeletal muscle, and sleep activity. There are various exercise modes available as well which assist you when you are working out or involved in outdoor activities like running, swimming, hiking, etc,. The interesting thing about the Galaxy Watch5 Pro is that features like ECG and Blood Pressure monitoring are accessible only through Samsung phones just like the Apple watches can be connected to only Apple smartwatches.

Battery

The 44mm version of the Samsung Galaxy Watch5 comes with a 410mAh battery whereas the Samsung Galaxy Watch5 Pro comes with 590 mAh battery power. Watch5 lasts a day with a full charge and the next day you plug it in again whereas the Watch5 Pro lasts 2-3 easily and we will suggest keeping the Always-on-display feature off for better longevity of the battery in Watch5 Pro. The charging speed of both the watches is moderate where Watch5 charges a little fast compared to Watch5 Pro. It needs to be noted that the difference in charging speed is also due to the difference in the battery power requiring Watch5 Pro to take a little longer to get fully charged.

Verdict

Taking into account all the features and upgrades it could be said that Samsung has really upped its game making its smartwatches more desirable with the latest features and aesthetic design. Comparing it to the latest Apple watches we feel that the Samsung watches are the only ones who can be considered a true match.
