Sennheiser Momentum4 Review

 Sennheiser Momentum4 Review

The new Sennheiser Momentum4 is priced at Rs.34,990/-

Sennheiser with its latest launch of Sennheiser Momentum4 is challenging the monopoly within the premium ANC headsets. The latest launch from the company will take on the likes of SONY XM5 and BOSE 700. Let’s find out whether the new Sennheiser Momentum4 has what it takes to take the baton in its hand.

In the Box

A headset case, a USB-A to USB-C cable, an airplane adapter, and a 2.5mm to 3.5mm TRS cable.

Design

The new Sennheiser Momentum4 has a very minimalistic appearance. The headset is lightweight since its body is made of plastic. The design has a simple appearance that offers an overall aesthetic appeal. To make wearing the band more comfortable, it incorporates soft padding made of synthetic leather. The two oval ear cups include soft cushioning and are made more in a free-size fashion to fit ears comfortably. The company has ditched the foldable earcups as the new Sennheiser Momentum4 lies flat and does not fold. The controls are completely placed on the right earcup of the headset as you can find the power and pairing button, USB-C charging port, and the LED indicators all on the right earcup.

Controls

All of the controls, with the exception of the pairing button, are touch-based and are located on the right earcup. The touch-based sensor allows you to play/pause music, change the volume, and navigate to the next/previous track. The touchpad is quite responsive and simple to use. Also, the smart function like play/pause when the headphone is worn and removed is something we liked. Placing the headset down in the case automatically shuts it down.

Connectivity

The new Sennheiser Momentum 4 supports the AptX, AptX Adaptive, AAC, and SBC codecs and is Bluetooth 5.2 compatible. We were able to easily link the headset with our phone even without using the Sennheiser app. It is always better and advisable to use the concerned app and here in this case use the Sennheiser Control app instead for greater controls, settings, and functionalities.

The app comes with a feature like an equalizer that enables you to select from a selection of presets, including Rock, Pop, Dance, Hip Hop, Classical, and Movie, and to change the Bass, Mid, and Treble levels to suit your tastes. Additionally, the app offers a Sound Zone option that enables you to automatically apply your sound preferences while entering or departing particular zones, such as your work zone, home, the gym, etc. Using the Sennheiser app, you can also change the ANC and Transparency levels.

ANC and Sound Quality

The race in the premium headphones is heated now. The ANC feature of the new Sennheiser Momentum4 is very good at diminishing the unwanted noise of the outside environment quite effectively. The headset also has the transparency mode which allows you to be aware of the surroundings especially when you are walking on the road and need to be aware of the vehicles coming from behind. The ANC of the Sennheiser Momentum4 is good but when we compared it with the likes of the Sony XM5 it fell a little behind. We were able to hear faded outside noises but with full volume on they were more or less neutralized. There is also an adaptive mode that, when used, adjusts to the surroundings automatically making sure that you hear any approaching vehicle.

One can hear every note thanks to the new Sennheiser Momentum 4's crystal-clear sound quality. The audio quality is excellent, and the songs' richness is apparent. The bass quality is excellent, and you can modify the bass levels using the equalizer setting as well as the Bass Boost feature, which gives the bass additional punch. You can sense each song's parts because of the rich sound generated. The new Sennheiser Momentum 4 offers a highly immersive listening experience overall, and we experienced no frequency deflection because everything was on a level playing field.

Call

On each of the earcups of the brand-new Sennheiser Momentum4, there are two microphones. The headset is quite effective at minimizing the degree of annoyance you experience when making calls by filtering out extraneous sounds from the outside environment. Additionally, the Sidestone mode in the Sennheiser Control app lets you change the sound volume while you're on call.

Battery

With ANC enabled, the new Sennheiser Momentum4 has an unmatched 60-hour battery life out of the box. During testing, we had no trouble using the headset for close to 60–64 hours on a single charge. The new Sennheiser Momentum4 headset outperforms its rivals, who can only survive about 30-40 hours of playback. The headset takes around 2 hours to get completely charged.

Verdict

The entry of Sennheiser Momentum4 in the premium ANC-enabled headset has caused quite a stir as the users now have more options. The headset is also light on the pocket making it a serious competitor. The unmatched battery power puts it in a different league altogether which other companies need to think about but it falls a little behind in terms of ANC features and the presence of microphones as its rival Sony has a better performance rate.
