Recently we witnessed the launch of two foldable phones from Samsung. Our review today will be about the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4. We shared the first impression a few days back highlighting the all-new features that the new Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4 offers. Let's have a complete look into the new Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4.

In the Box

The box contains a Type-C to Type-C data cable, SIM card ejector, and documentation.

Design

The new Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4 resembles its predecessor in terms of design and looks. The phone may look the same but it has slight changes like a narrow hinge allowing the phone to look more compact when folded.

The control layout is the same as that of the Galaxy Z Fold3. At the bottom are the USB-C port and the primary speaker. The capacitive fingerprint scanner, volume rockers, and SIM tray are all located on the right side of the device. The fingerprint sensor operates quickly and correctly despite having a smaller diameter. The entire phone is made of Gorilla Glass Victus+, which is all over the body. With an IPX8 certification, it is water-resistant and can withstand 1.5 meters of fresh water for 30 minutes. The phone is really easy to use, and carry around, and feels quite comfortable in the hand. The phone's matte surface increases its attractiveness and deters fingerprints. When the phone is folded, you can use the quick settings panel, where you can choose which widget you want to see. With the addition of the second tiny display, you can take photos in full definition using the rear camera and can view the entire frame by double touching the little screen. The rear side of the phone holds two camera modules and an LED flash. On the front side lies the selfie sensor in a punch hole. The new Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4 comes with the Bespoke edition, allowing you to choose from 75 colors to personalize both the phone's top and lower body.

Display

The phone has two screens, the main of which is a 6.7-inch FHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X screen with a 20:9 aspect ratio, making the screen tall. It boasts a 425 PPI density with a resolution of 1080 x 2640 pixels. The main display boasts a refresh rate of 120Hz, HDR10+ compatibility, and a maximum brightness of 1200 nits. When the phone is folded, the cover screen serves as the second display. It has a screen size of 1.9 inches and a 302 PPI density, with a resolution of 260x512 pixels. The thin bezels around the display increase the screen-to-body ratio. The new Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4 offers two color modes Vivid and Natural. The colors reproduced are very bright, crisp, vivid, and punchy. We loved watching movies on the screen as the phone comes with HDR10+ support which presents every detail in high definition. The phone is easily visible under bright sunlight as we did not face any issue viewing the screen when we used it outside.

UI

The company has used One UI 4.1.1, which is based on Android 12L and created particularly for foldable phones, in the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4. The user interface has been altered to provide a seamless experience. The phone also includes a flex mode that enables you to use it as a trackpad, as well as to turn up the volume and change the brightness, among other things. The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4 has a unique function that was not present earlier. The new function allows you to select between shooting settings and cameras as well as activate the rear camera by pressing the power button twice. The external screen also serves as a viewfinder. The new Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4 comes with four years of OS upgrades and five years of security updates.

Processor

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4 just like the Fold4 is powered by the latest Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 (4nm) processor. The phone faces no issues at all in handling any tasks. Multitasking and browsing were so smooth and we did not come across any lag. The games played, ran in top-notch quality. The new Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4 comes with 8GB of RAM with 128GB/ 256GB/ 512GB of UFS 3.1 storage. The company has very smartly fitted the phone with an advanced cooling system because despite small batteries divided into two panels we did not come across any heating issue.

Camera

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4 has two rear camera sensors. The first sensor features a 123-degree field of vision and a 12MP ultra-wide lens with an aperture of f/2.2. A 12MP wide-angle lens with an f/1.8 aperture and an 83-degree field of view makes up the second sensor. The 10MP selfie sensor has an aperture of f/2.4. The rear sensors produced brilliantly detailed photos capturing the details of the surroundings in their natural context. Across every single image we captured, the contrast level and dynamic range were perfectly balanced. The ultrawide lens captures very fine details as well. The inclusion of an external display makes it possible to take great selfies using the rear camera sensors. The selfie sensor is likewise on point, producing photos of yourself that are crisp and have high contrast and color accuracy. The photographs taken at night have the power to amaze you with the small details they manage to capture. The photographs taken were brilliant and maintained the color saturation and contrast quite precisely. The brand-new Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4 is capable of recording movies in 4K at 60 frames per second, 1080p at 60 frames per second, and 30 frames per second. The selfie sensor can record movies in 4K resolution at 30 frames per second. The movies that were recorded had excellent stability and were very detailed with correct colors. Overall, the camera performance has increased dramatically compared to the Flip3 that was first introduced.

Battery

The company has upgraded the battery power in the new Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4. The phone comes with a 3700mAh battery power which lasts a day quite comfortably. The phone supports 25W fast charging, 15W wireless charging 2.0, and 4.5W reverse wireless charging. To charge the phone you need to buy the adapter separately just like the Apple phones. The charging speed is moderate and we feel Samsung needs to up its game in the charging section to make it stand different from Apple phones.

Verdict

The new Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4 succeeds over its predecessor in every section. The phone is a perfect balance of power and performance. It does not fall short on any note be it the camera, processor, battery, etc. The only thing we did not like was the absence of an adapter which the company can consider providing in the future to make it stand a little ahead of iPhones.
