OnePlus Buds Pro Review

Introduction

OnePlus has marked its entry into the flagship earbuds section with its latest launch of OnePlus Buds Pro earbuds. The new earbuds from the OnePlus are not going to completely compete against the flagship earbuds rather they will be competing against the mid-range earbuds. The new OnePlus Earbuds Pro with its advanced features unlike its predecessors will surely be going to draw the attention of flagship earbuds users towards itself. In this review of ours, we will try to find out whether the new earbuds from the OnePlus will be able to take the baton in its hand to lead the competition or not.

 Design

The OnePlus Buds Pro has an attractive appearance, with a small and sleek matte case that resembles a box of mints. The case features the OnePlus logo and has a minimal design with an LED indicator and a USB-C port for charging. Opening the case reveals the earbuds, clearly marked for the left and right ears, with a pairing button in between. If you have a OnePlus phone, the earbuds will automatically pair. The earbuds have a two-tone design, with matte plastic on top and glossy plastic on the bottom. The top side is prone to smudges and requires cleaning. Both the earbuds and the case have ingress protection. The earbuds are rated IP55 for dust and water resistance, while the case has an IPX4 rating for protection against water splashes. The OnePlus Buds Pro is available in Matte Black and Glossy White color options.

Ergonomic

The OnePlus Buds Pro are quite tiny, measuring 3.2cm x 2.32cm and weighing only 4.35g, which helps significantly to their comfort. The new OnePlus Earbuds Pro has a single 11mm dynamic driver with a frequency range of 20-20,000Hz is housed within.

Handling

The handling of the OnePlus Earbuds Pro is very easy and comfortable as the control mechanism is very easy to operate. The new OnePlus Buds Pro has pressure-sensitive stalks on the earphones to activate various functionalities. You can press once to play/pause, twice to move to the next track, and three times to return to the previous track by default, and to keep in my mind the three times press can also activate the voice assistant. OnePlus Buds Pro allows you to press and hold to choose between the three noise-canceling modes. You may have all three (on, off, transparency) or any two, just as the AirPods Pro.

The OnePlus Buds Pro supports Bluetooth 5.2. The codec support includes SBC, AAC, and LHDC v3. There's no support for LDAC or any of the aptX variants.

Software

The OnePlus Buds have a built-in software for connecting to OnePlus phones, which is accessed through the OnePlus Buds app. This app appears as an extra choice in the Bluetooth settings on OnePlus phones. For Apple AirPods, the connection is made through the Bluetooth settings menu. If you don't have a OnePlus phone, you can use the Oppo HeyMelody app, which works with both Android and iOS devices. The app provides the same functionality and customization options as the OnePlus Buds UI. The software features two notable characteristics: OnePlus Audio ID, which creates a personalized audio profile based on a hearing test, and Zen Mode Air, which plays relaxing sounds through the earphones to promote relaxation.

 Noise cancellation

There are two levels of active noise canceling on the OnePlus Buds Pro. There is a standard noise-canceling mode as well as a high max noise-canceling option. The default setting, however, is smart, which automatically changes the amount of noise canceling based on ambient noise levels. The sound of your home surroundings is effectively reduced. To be true the earbuds do not cancel out the noises in the outside environment like the loud volumes find their way in even after the noise cancellation mode is in effect. While watching videos, the OnePlus Buds Pro offers low latency. Regardless of the codec, the earphones were able to seamlessly sync with the video stream with minimum delay.

Sound Quality

The OnePlus Buds Pro offers improved sound quality with features like Dolby Atmos. The bass is impressive, and you can clearly hear every beat. However, there is no custom EQ in the companion app, so you can only modify EQ settings in your streaming service. The overall sound quality is good, allowing you to notice every pitch and variation in music. At maximum volume, the clarity suffers and the sound can feel uncomfortable. Call clarity is excellent, with stable connectivity. The OnePlus Buds Pro deliver premium sound quality at an affordable price range.

Battery

The new OnePlus Buds Pro comes with a battery power of 5 hours with ANC enabled and up to 7 hours with ANC disabled. When we tested the battery lasting capacity the earbuds were able to last up to 5-6 hours continuously.

Conclusion

The new OnePlus Buds Pro with its features is surely going to divert lots of attention from the flagship earbuds. OnePlus Buds Pro is majorly competing against Oppo Enco X which lies within the same range. The sounds produced are very detailed especially the Bass.
