Corning extends composite products for Corning® Gorilla Glass to improve the performance of mobile device cameras

22 July, 2021 – INDIA Corning Incorporated has announced today that Corning® Gorilla® Glass with DX and Corning® Gorilla ® Glass with DX+ will be the new category for its scratch resistant and durable glass composite products. This technology may be employed on mobile device cameras to capture image of a professional level with a unique mix of enhanced optical performance, superior scratch strength and durability.

Jaymin Amin, Vice President and General Manager of Corning Gorilla Glass said: "The usage of anti-reflective capturing has been long in use with traditional cameras to increase light capture. "These coatings are, however, likely to scratch readily, affecting the image quality severely. The composites in Corning's Gorilla Glass not only offer a better rip-resistance and longer durability than conventional coatings for mobile device camera cups but increase optical performance."

Smartphone makers have added sophisticated functions such as telephoto, wide-angle lenses, and infrared sensors to meet customer demand for high-quality picture and video capabilities. The size and number of cameras on smartphones continue to expand, while lens surfaces continue to grow considerably - causing scratches and damage via daily usage. reaching this degree of sophistication.

Samsung will be the first company to use Gorilla Glass DX for lens covers on cameras.

Amin stated, "We've created the best solution for camera lens coverings." “Our glass composites enhance the full capacity of the camera design by collecting 98 percent of light for the camera lens, assisting in the creation of high-quality photos and videos. For the ultimate user experience, our Gorilla Glass DX products provide the greatest mix of optical performance and protection in the industry.”

More than 45 major brands have incorporated Gorilla Glass into more than 8 billion products. Corning continues its legacy of innovation with market-leading cover glasses, as well as glass and optics for semiconductor products, that improve performance, deliver new connectivity features, enable new designs, and support immersive user experiences with augmented reality and 3D sensing through its Mobile Consumer Electronics Market-Access Platform. Gorilla Glass DX has been used on more than 30 million wearable devices since 2016, and it is currently being used on mobile camera lens covers.
