5G trials gets Government Nod

 


DoT Allows Telecom Companies To Conduct 5G Technology, Spectrum Trials

The government of India has finally given its approval for the 5G trial in the country and the duration for the trials granted by the government is for six months.

The Department of Telecommunications gave permissions to telecom Service Providers to conduct 5G trials across the country. The permission given completely leaves out the giant Chinese companies like Huawei and ZTE. 

The companies which are granted permission includes companies like Reliance JioInfocomm Ltd., Bharti Airtel Ltd., Vodafone Idea Ltd., and MTNL. These Telecom Service Providers have tied up with the original equipment manufacturers and technology providers, which are Ericson, Nokia, Samsung and C-DOT.

Additionally, Reliance JioInfocomm Ltd. will also be conducting trials using its own indigenous technology.

 The duration of the trial includes a time period of two months for the procurement and setting up of the equipment for the trial.

The permission granted to the Telecom Service Providers includes that the each company will have to conduct trials in rural and semi-urban settings also, in addition to urban settings, so that the benefit of 5G technology proliferates across the country.
